Day 25 - Chinchilla to Kingaroy

Day 25 - Chinchilla to Kingaroy

After leaving Chinchilla we continued heading east along the Warrego Highway to Kingaroy - the Peanut Capital of Australia and for those old enough Joe and Flo Bjelke Petersen country and once the bible belt of Queensland.

On the advice of the local tourist information centre we decided to go via Jandowae as we had been told the Highway to Dalby was less than desirable.

So the alternative road we took.   Well all was good to Jandowae.    Jandowae had once of the most colourful pubs we have seen (other than the Pink Pub).

Now I am sure all would have been fine if we had not trusted "Lucy" our on board navigator who decided that we needed to see a bit more of rural Australia and travel to Kingaroy via the Dingo Fence Tourist road.   Road is a word one would use loosely when describing this detour.

The Dingo Fence is the second longest man made structure in the world,   It was erected during the 1880's to keep dingos out of relatively fertile south east part of Australia to protect the sheep flocks of southern Queensland.  It stretches 5,614klm pass through Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.

The track we travelled was the northern end of the Dingo Fence between Jandowae and Jimbour.   George to say the least was not at all impressed about the one lane road whilst towing the caravan even though it past through the most beautiful rural agricultural land over the range to Kingaroy.

Our destination tonight was the Kingaroy Showgrounds, located as your are coming into Kingaroy from the west.    Again another reasonably costed stop over at $25.00 per night power and water.

We were treated to another lovely sunset,
