So today we headed off to Gilgandra some 60klms travel for the day. More beautiful Canola fields starting to bloom, the odd old man emu and of course the occasional road kill along the way.
Gilgandra is known as the town of windmills. Windy more like it!! The town is situated along the banks of the Castlereagh River . It is also famous for the prolonged coo-ee used to attract attention when in the bush. It came about back in 1915 when a group of 35 ment set out for Sydney on the first recruiting march of World War I and called "coo-ee" at each town they passed to attract men to join them.

Unfortunately, the rain started that night and set in for the next day. Our diesel heater kept us nice and toastie for the night but has failed to work since. As the day got wetter and colder it was time to move to a powered site (yep whimpy old me doesn't like the cold) at a local caravan park called "Barneys". A strange little park which catered for a lot of unusual people but the power and water were greatly appreciated.
We spent the last night in Gilgandra at the local RSL where we failed to win anything in the local raffle (as usual) but spent a bit of time talking to a couple of locals whom had moved to Gilandra from the city to be mortgage free. Sorry but not for me!!!
