Day 5 and 6 - Dunedoo to Gilgandra

So today we headed off to Gilgandra some 60klms travel for the day.    More beautiful Canola fields starting to bloom, the odd old man emu and of course the occasional road kill along the way.

Gilgandra is known as the town of windmills.   Windy more like it!!    The town is situated along the banks of the Castlereagh River .     It is also famous for the prolonged coo-ee used to attract attention when in the bush.   It came about back in 1915 when a group of 35 ment set out for Sydney on the first recruiting march of World War I and called "coo-ee" at each town they passed to attract men to join them.

Our stay for the night was behind The Royal Hotel.   A free pub camp with gold coin donation for showers and toilet.      We definitely didn't need to leave a "gold coin" donation as the pub catered for our every needs and we took advantage of those facilities.   Great country pub food and drink.

Grapevine tree at pub - 130 years old                                            No fill line for this publ

Unfortunately, the rain started that night and set in for the next day.    Our diesel heater kept us nice and toastie for the night but has failed to work since.    As the day got wetter and colder it was time to move to a powered site (yep whimpy old me doesn't like the cold) at a local caravan park called "Barneys".     A strange little park which catered for a lot of unusual people but the power and water were greatly appreciated.

We spent the last night in Gilgandra at the local RSL where we failed to win anything in the local raffle (as usual) but spent a bit of time talking to a couple of locals whom had moved to Gilandra from the city to be mortgage free.      Sorry but not for me!!!

It is so wet under foot that we have had to break out the gum boots and wet weathers.    George spent a lot of time trying to get the diesel heater working only to fume us out of the van and into the pub.    Tilly and I got sick of the smell and the language.    My man is so patient!!   Yes Archie that is sarcasm.

So Day 6, we are down a diesel heater and the boss lost one of our clips off our awning for the tie downs.   Oh well that is living on the road for you.
